Most people I know are afraid to display their uniqueness. It is unclear why. There is certainly the impression that being unique is unsafe , unsocial and lead to exclusion.

In my hometown, if you show your uniqueness people will call you “artist”. Being called “an artist” in this case has a pejorative connotation. It means you are not walking in the rank. It means something about you is too different from the norm.

You might face ridicule and be regarded with disdain.

Yet if you want to be truly successful you have to embrace your uniqueness. Sameness leads to conformity which in turn lead to boredom. If you do like anyone less, there is no real reason for anybody to pay attention.

New concepts almost always face opposition in the beginning. It is true in any fields from technology to art. I remember, before, the launch of the Apple Ipad how tech journalists laughed at the concept. But then, they have totally embraced it and they can’t get enough of it.

I remember before the movie Titanic came out how film critics excepted that movie to be the biggest flop in the history. They have been proven to be very wrong.

So if you are afraid that the world will reject you because you are unique just build some courage.

There is great reward for the one who is able to navigate beyond a storm toward a given destination. This is true for me and you and anyone else.

If God had wanted me otherwise, He would have created me otherwise.  ~Johann von Goethe
